It's been awhile since little Trinity has made an appearance on the blog, but she's back and more beautiful than ever. And guess who's got a birthday coming up in April? It seems unreal to me that this little bright star will be 3 soon. Seems like, well, 3 years ago I took the first of what would be many images of this sweetie growing up.

For a little fun this afternoon, we loaded up the car with tutus, boots, all the favorite stuffed animals, and lots of gold fish crackers and hit the road to head down to Deep Ellum for an urban photo session to commemorate another approaching milestone. We had a blast, and with the exception of a little Trinity tumble off a 3 foot ledge and a dead car battery, I'd say it was more than a success.

I love this image... looks like she's just leanin' back and kickin' it old school.





















This last one cracks me up. While I was changing settings on my camera little Trinity found this bottle in the high grass and was looking down inside of it, so when I looked up, I had to capture this priceless image. Too funny. Please don't email me saying I'm promoting underage drinking. Nothing could be further from the truth - just a great impromptu moment.

Princess Trinity

Most of you long-time readers of the blog already know little Trinity by now as she's made several starring appearances over the last several months. Last Saturday we set out to find this little Princess' magic castle, and we photographed our journey along the way.

The weather was a bit windy, maybe even borderline monsoonish at times, but when a 2-and-a-half-year-old little girl makes up her mind to get dressed up and go exploring, there's no stopping her.

Here's a couple of my favorites from our adventure.

Attention All Babysitters!

In case this photography thing doesn't work out, I can now add babysitter to the resumé list. This weekend Jerry and Tina were celebrating their 10th anniversary, so my friend ('aunt') Kandis was watching Trinity for the weekend so mom and dad could get some much-deserved baby-free time. I must confess I didn't do much babysitting... I stopped over Saturday night, saw the baby, played with the baby, enforced no rules with the baby, encouraged new (a.k.a. bad) habits with the baby, and photographed the baby... so mainly I'm just taking all the glory while Kandis did all the work. Kind of a babysitter by proxy kind a thing. We had a ton of fun, though, and Trinity was just as entertaining as she was entertained.

This is my favorite kind of photography to do... no primping, no posing, no "hold that look"... just photographing life as it happens and people as they are. 30 years from now mom and dad will look back at these images and see Trinity for who she is at this moment in time... a sweet, messy, wild, playful, innocent, mischievous, quirky, inquisitive, imperfect, precious 2 year old little girl. I really want my images to say something about a person; I want my images to be a reflection of their subject's personality. I think these are right on the money for Trinity, and she truly is - as the slideshow music says - a "Little Bright Star".

I would be remiss not to mention faithful Ally. At over 8 years old, She's gladly taken a back seat to little Trinity for the last two years. Such a sweet and trusty companion. And as dog's go, she's a photographer's dream - she just sat there and looked right into the light and didn't move. Then again, she had a long day with lots of excitement, so she was a bit worn out.

Miss Tackett turns 2!

I can't believe baby Trinity is becoming a little lady already. Seems like just last month I was taking her baby pictures, and now she's almost 2! I'm sure she's growing way to fast for mom and dad, too.


We had originally planned to photograph Trinity in a little sun dress with a wagon and some lemons for a spring-time theme, but mother nature had other plans. After several days with sun and temps in the low 80's, the day of our session had clouds and a high in the 50's. So, mom decided to make lemonade and ditch the sun dress for a bit more western-style duds.


Tina and Jerry, I know you're good friends, so my perspective might be slightly skewed, but Trinity is so precious and sweet. I just love her like she was my own, and it's been a blessing to see her grow up into an amazing little girl. To be able to capture her milestones with a camera has just been icing on the cake.


Tell her to get that sun dress ready - 'Uncle Matt' will see her again soon.
